Management
Background
New development of TMF Filtration Plant is planned on sloping rocky slope. Existing site has insufficient area for whole plant development.
Additional fills are needed to widen area for plant development.
MSE Wall is proposed by GRM as the retaining system for the additional area.
Part of proposed TMF Filtration Plant is planned as a storage of filter cake area. This storage structure is located near MSE Wall.
Challenge
Foundation soils under MSE Wall varies in the elevation and consistency. Part of MSE Wall is constructed on competent layer (Rock; SPT-N > 50).
Filter cake storage is designed using cantilever wall along with shear key.
Due to the scarcity of granular material, sand material is used as the technical backfill material.
Solution
ReCo designs MSE Wall using Reinforced Earth® Wall specification. Total facia of Reinforced Earth® Wall is 1,237 m2.
Under filter cake storage, Reinforced Earth® Wall is designed with higher tensile strength of reinforcement to accommodate Filter Cake high load. In addition, Back-to-back MSE Wall is designed as retaining earth wall in front of Filter cake stockpile structure.
In the reinforcement zone, combination of Geosynthetic GeoStrap® and Geogrid are proposed to minimize wall lateral deflection due to sandy type backfill material.
